At MASS, we study Marxism, an advanced science explaining the progression of human society through class struggle. From serfs and kings, to slaves and masters, to workers and bosses, the battle between the oppressed and the oppressor is the constant force that pushes history forward. It is important to understand the difference between scientific and utopian socialism. often presented by the upper class elements of the left, utopianism is not grounded in the reality of the working class.
This version of socialism lacks substantial steps or action towards an ideal society. In other words, utopian socialists are all bark, but no bite. Scientific socialism addresses the current state of society and its conditions in order to effectively organize the people to gain control over their lives. in the words of black panther Kwame Somburu: “[Scientific socialism is an] analysis of capitalism/imperialism, fascism, racism, and colonialism” with the purpose of “worker’s revolution, colonial revolution, self-determination for all peoples, and relevant contribution towards a working-class world revolution.”
MASS aims to empower and embolden the people to fight back against capitalist exploitation so that we may develop a society organized and run by the workers. A society in which the people reap the full fruit of their labour, and where basic needs such as food, housing, and healthcare are provided for everyone.
